Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere provided some updates on some key injured players at the moment:
Nicolas Deslauriers (Placed on IR retroactive to November 9: day-to-day with an upper-body injury)
Samuel Ersson (Remains on IR: day-to-day with a lower-body injury)
Jamie Drysdale (Remains on IR: day-to-day with an upper-body injury)
Samuel Ersson became a puzzling scratch with yesterday’s lineup against the Florida Panthers. Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella is pretty transparent, as possible, with injuries. He can only tell the media so much, due to Hippa Violations, but he did confirm on Wednesday 12-4-2024 that Ersson would be an option for last night’s game. Instead Ivan Fedotov got the start, while Aleksei Kolosov backed up Fedotov.
Ersson has been dealing with a nagging lower body injury for well over a month, maybe just maybe, he didn’t feel 100% yesterday, or an Athletic Trainer or doctor felt an extra day of rest was necessary. Either way, he remains on IR (Injured Reserve).
Nic Deslauriers and Jamie Drysdale should return shortly. Deslauriers left practice early on Wednesday, with Tortorella saying “He tweaked something.” No other explanation was given, with a sense of his injury. In retrospect, the Flyers roster currently sits at 21, so hypothetically, both Ersson and Drysdale could return to the lineup tomorrow against the Boston Bruins.
With placing Deslauriers on IR, this offers the Flyers some flexibility with cap and roster space. Let’s hope in the end the orange and black can return back to their winning ways tomorrow in Boston.
