The Flyers oust the Penguins in overtime

The Flyers knew the Pittsburgh Penguins were growing to come out hard in the first period after they defeated them on Saturday night 4-3 in a shootout in their own house. Sidney Crosby, of course is a Flyers killer. He happened to open the scoring for the Penguins, off a beautiful feed for a one-time top shelf goal.

Carter Hart was really good last night. He kept the Flyers in the game, just long enough for Tyson Foerster to equalize things at one. Foerster is a goal scorer, which means he’s going to be streaky, but when he’s hot it will be hard to stop him from scoring. This was Foerster’s fourth goal in the last three games played, “Anytime you score in this league your confidence is going to rise,” Foerster said following the game.

Both goaltenders at each side of the ice came up big in the third period to keep the score knotted at one, en route to overtime. Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier enter the Penguins zone on a 2-on-1, and Konecny saucered a pass to Couturier, to the blade of his stick. Couturier made no mistake as he blasted the puck past Alex Nedeljkovic for the game winner.

“I think it’s huge. We know these divisional games are huge. We have to go into this road trip with the same mindset,” Couturier said of sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins in the home and home.

“He’s a sick goalie, and we are happy to have him,” Foerster set of Carter Hart following the game. Between Foerster, Coots, Konecny, Hart, and the defense that is what led to the Flyers defeating the Penguins on a Monday night. For once, the Wells Fargo was buzzing again with excitement, and that hasn’t been seen in the past few seasons. Hopefully, they can keep this lovely ride going.
