The Flyers had a busy day today, as expected with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms opening Training Camp this past weekend. Some did well during their taste of a Torts Camp or “Tortsture Camp”, while others knew the writing was on the wall for a cut. They have placed three players on waivers, and they should clear with no problem. Here are the list of players the Flyers waived today:
Adam Brooks
Max Willman
Louie Belpedio
Cam York, Tyson Foerster, Olle Lycksell, Adam Ginning, Adam Karashik, Pat Nagle, Adam Brooks, Max Willman, Louis Belpedio and J.R. Avon have been cut. The Flyers roster now sits at 34
York was given every shot to make the team, but just didn’t knock down the doors for a spot. This is a big year for him nonetheless, as he could not replicate his performance from last season when he was recalled to the big club. I think he placed too much pressure on himself, and really only had a mediocre Training Camp and pre-season. Some people have insisted on trading Sanheim, as York could play in the top 4 next season. Honestly, no one knows what York is or will be in the NHL. Everything is a process.
The 21-year-old in York needs to learn to take the body more. Last night he looked out of sorts. Everything is a process, he’s only 21 for lord’s sake. He had a mediocre camp, same with the pre-season. This happens, he’s learning to become a pro, it’s not easy. York will learn, he should not be pegged into the top four next season, let him develop properly, “I just want him to offer it up a little bit more to the team. I’m not sure where the road goes, but he’s just got so many different abilities that could be very positive for the team. We’ll see what happens as we go through,” John Tortorella said last night of York.
Tyson Foerster and Olle Lycksell have been cut. Lycksell had a great rookie camp and that filtered into Training Camp He really opened some eyes this camp. Foerster, on the other hand, had a less than spectacular camp. He was ok at best, and he will tell you he needs to play better. This was a tough camp, so let’s hope both players have learned from this.
In the end, I do not expect any of these players to get claimed. I expect both to fully clear, and report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this week.
