The Flyers made the easiest move, but the hardest choice today. They have recalled Felix Sandström,, but have sent down Samuel Ersson to Lehigh today ending speculation of Sandström being waived with the intent of sending him to Lehigh.
The former Vasteras IK product in Ersson appears to a confident one after his first four stints in the NHL. He is 3-0, with a 2.90 GAA, and a .905 Save Percentage to start his NHL career. Ersson is agile, and really moving well laterally from post to post. He has a good glove hand, as he snares pucks out of mid air. For his efforts, Ersson finished his stint with a 5-0 record, 2.37 GAA, and a .918 Save Percentage in six starts. He also led the Flyers to a sweep of the California road trip for the first time in franchise history.
This was an unlikely role given to him, with the sickness to Felix Sandström, to which he did a brief conditioning stint with Lehigh thus giving Ersson another look.
“I’m starting to feel more comfortable. It’s the wins that matter. We got the win I’m happy with that.” – Samuel Ersson said following the game against the Anaheim Ducks
Ersson wanted to prove that he is a Goaltender that the Flyers can rely on in the future to back up Carter Hart, and he did just that. Of course, with Sandström not being waivers exempt this was the easiest to keep a supply of goaltenders in the Flyers system. He could progress this season to take over the backup role for the Flyers organization possibly as early as next season. Yes, he’s that good.
Travis Konecny
Since December 19, 2022, Travis Konecny is second in the NHL for most points (22), and he trails Connor McDavid by two points.
Konecny- 12G,10A
McDavid- 11G,13A
The difference is Konecny will not be an All-Star, unless he’s a replacement. Konecny also sits first on the team in goals (24), points (48), PPG (5), and is tied for first in Power Play Points (13).
It was the smart move.
