This really wasn’t the plan for the Flyers yesterday, obviously; it seems that they just could not properly focus on the game, as it appeared they looked gassed. The Flyers did finally muster power play a goal, but the unit as a whole went 1-6. Ottawa had no trouble scoring with the man advantage. As a whole, the Flyers are now 1-7 with the man as advantage through two games of play. This is an area of concern for the Flyers.
This game was far different from opening night. It wasn’t like that the Flyers scored two, then they couldn’t find a way to score more goals. Unfortunately, it was like they were disinterested to even play against Ottawa. I previously noted the Flyers needed to focus and score; it seemed like they were somewhere else and just couldn’t play. The Flyers did have some fights intermixed into the game (Nick Seeler); they appeared to have trouble focusing on the puck or task at hand. They were just one step behind the play the whole game, which is worrisome moving forward.
What the orange and black need to do for their next game is just focus and play with the right mindset. The Flyers penalty kill was a bit off against Ottawa, as well. Travis Sanheim had some great plays and some unforgetful plays; he was able to score, but he had some costly plays where he could have been better (A turnover at the end of the second that made the score 4-2, as opposed to 3-2). He can be far better and he knows it, “A couple of breakdowns. We have to be better more disciplined,” Sanheim said following the game.

The power play was brutal. They had plenty of opportunities to score with the man advantage, but they just failed to do so. There is just too much passing on the umbrella of the unit, and the one time they got the puck down low after getting set up, they scored. What they need to do is just play and have fun, stop the perimeter passing, be a little more creative. The Flyers have their first regular season loss, now it’s time to refocus on the home opener on Tuesday. Hopefully, the stadium is electric on Tuesday, if the proud faithful will be on hand to see their beloved Flyers.
