The Flyers announced that they have traded Ronnie Attard to the Edmonton Oilers for a blue liner in Ben Gleason. Gleason is 26-years-old, and an AHL blue liner. This is a straight up swap for two players that evidently need a change of scenery.
Gleason has played seven games this season for the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL. He stands at 6’1 and weighs 190 pounds. Gleason has registered four points (1g-3a) through in seven games played this season. He’s a left-handed blue liner, that can skate. Gleason has similar traits to Ronnie Attard.
The skinny on Gleason is he likes to handle the puck. He’s a good puck mover, but he tends to turn the puck over a lot when he over handles the puck. Hopefully, he learns how to play a safer game with the Phantoms. The one good thing he has going for him is he is a good skater.
Attard was just too inconsistent at the NHL level, coupled with a not so good Training Camp. He was sent back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms early in camp, and the writing was on the wall for an eventual trade as he moved down the depth chart.
It’s ashame that Attard didn’t last in the Flyers organization. He showed flashes of skill, and good skating for that matter. But for whatever reason, he just couldn’t put it all together. Let’s hope this change of scenery helps him.
