The Goaltending problems that have haunted this proud organization for many years may just be a thing of the past. Carter Hart is the franchise netminder, and now the Flyers have inked promising young Prospect Samuel Ersson to a three-year entry-evel-contract (ELC) today.
Ersson was masterful in his final season for Brynas, in Sweden, well posting a 2.96 GAA, and a .911 Save Percentage in 42 games. His numbers do not do him Justice, but he was phenomenal for Brynas. He open some eyes and he was rewarded today, all of this while playing in the third toughest league in the world, “I look forward to the challenge in the SHL, and Brynas,” Ersson said to me at Flyers Developmental Camp in 2019, “It’s a tough league for sure, but it will show you what you are made of.”
The former Vasteras IK product appeared to be confident, and one could see the determination on his face in the locker room following the first practice at developmental camp in 2019:
“I’m trying to learn as much as possible at this camp, but I feel good right now. Last season was good, but I have to just remain focused at the task at hand.”– Samuel Ersson said to Jamey Baskow in 2019
Ersson continued, “ I like to have fun though. I love Swedish Rap- Yung Lean, Mwuana (Laughing)…love it.”
Samuel Ersson wants to prove that he is a Goaltender that the Flyers can rely on in the future to back up Carter Hart. I believe he will start with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the Fall, and hopefully in a year or two take over the backup role for the Flyers organization. Ersson moves laterally post to post very well, so the sky is the limit for this young man.
