Victor Mete has been recalled by the Flyers, as they have sent back Emil Andrae to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Mete and his wife Courtney are expecting the birth of their first child next month.
Mete, 25, has previously played for the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Ottawa Senators. He is a solid extra steady defenseman that will not kill you offensively, but he does play a smart defensive game. Mete is more of a stay at home defenseman, but does have the knowledge and wear all to produce offensively from time to time.
He has struggled to stay in the lineup, mainly due to injuries. For instance, he broke his foot with the Canadiens, and last season he exited a game with a lower body injury, to which he indeed suffered another lower body injury in May that sidelined him for the rest of the season. Really it has been a string of bad luck surrounding Mete, so hopefully he gets a fresh start tonight against the Minnesota Wild.
Louie Belpedio also recalled
Beldpedio was one of the final cuts in training camp, so obviously the Flyers think very highly of him. He makes plays, and can give a little offensively, as well. He was signed by Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere to a two-year $1.85 million contract this past offseason. This is how much the Flyers think of him, especially being a seasoned veteran on the backend.
Louie can also help groom the youth, not only in Philadelphia, but Lehigh, as well. He will wear #37 tonight, former Flyers’ Eric Desjardins old number.
How will things play out is anyone’s guess, but these recalls are well deserved for Belpedio and Mete.
