The Flyers have recalled Emil Andrae once again

Emil Andrae, a 23-year-old defenseman, has been recalled by the Flyers from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, once again. A roster spot was afforded after the orange and black sent Jett Luchanko back to the OHL yesterday.

Andrae, a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, has shown promise with his offensive skills and mobility, though consistency remains a challenge.

In the 2024-25 season, Andrae played 15 games with the Phantoms, scoring two goals and seven assists for nine points, and appeared in 20 games with the Flyers, contributing one goal and five assists. Earlier recalls include October 12, 2025, when he was called up for the Flyers’ home opener against the Florida Panthers, prompted by injuries to defensemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Cam York. He recorded two assists in his season debut with the Phantoms before that recall.

Despite his strong performances, Andrae has also been sent back to Lehigh Valley multiple times, including on October 16, 2025, after Cam York was activated from injured reserve. Flyers’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet has noted Andrae’s potential to add speed and puck-moving ability to the lineup, but emphasized the need for improved puck decisions and consistency. Andrae himself has expressed a mindset of seizing these opportunities, stating, “My goal is to play well enough to stay here,” while acknowledging the pressure as a privilege.
