The Flyers finally re-signed a Center/Winger yesterday in Zachary Wertz. Wertz is from Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and he was the recipient of a liver transplant.
Wertz, 9, favorite player is Travis Konecny. The two met on the ice last season, and Konecny made him feel really special. Donning the sweater #22, Wertz was elated at the treatment he received from the Flyers. He also practiced with the team yesterday, and even had lunch with Konecny.
“It’s phenomenal. I was just walking by and he was having lunch with TK. It wakes you up a bit.” – John Tortorella
This day was put on hold through the Make-A-Wish foundation in 2020 due to COVID-19, so it’s nice to see the Flyers fulfill this for Wertz and his family.
On one special day Wertz wowed the Flyers, and he left a good impression on them. So much so, Wertz became the first official signing of Danny Briere as a General Manager and Keith Jones as President of Hockey Ops.
This is a strong young man, in this day was well deserved for him and his family. For Konecny he was an All-Star off the ice last season.
