Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere said that Ersson was day to day, and he was out with a lower body injury, with its most recent injury. That meant the tandem of Aleksei Kolosov and Ivan Fedotov were back on the prowl. And with that Ivan Fedotov played well, and placed himself back into the backup position, when he was given a shot the last two games against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“Erss in net, Fedotov backs up,” said John Tortorella before Thursday night’s game against the Dallas Stars. “Just want to get him playing again. He’s healthy, we wouldn’t put him in net if he totally wasn’t ready to go.”

That means Samuel Ersson is the starter, while Fedotov is the number two, and Aleksei Kolosov is the odd man out at number three.

  1. Samuel Ersson
  2. Ivan Fedotov
  3. Aleksei Kolosov

At some point, Kolosov will head to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but it most likely won’t happen until Ersson can prove he can stay healthy. What that means is, Ersson will have to go injury-free for a week or two, then the Flyers have a decision when Nic Deslauriers is ready to come off IR (Injured Reserve). With Deslauriers being on IR, the Flyers don’t have to rush a decision with the goaltending situation. This offers them some sort of roster flexibility, but keep in mind, Kolosov needs to play, he’s only 22, we cannot forget that.

The Goaltending situation will be ironed out here shortly, and the right decisions will be made by sending Kolosov back to the AHL to further his development. He’s still young, but he has the athleticism and talent to eventually become a number one netminder in the NHL.
