That was a rough one for the Flyers last night (January 26, 2026) against the New York Islanders at home. The Isles shut them out 4-0 in a game that was pretty one-sided from the jump.

Ilya Sorokin was lights-out in net for New York, stopping all 21 shots he faced for his sixth shutout of the season (NHL-leading at that point). Jean-Gabriel Pageau led the way offensively with a pair of goals (including a shorthanded one that stood as the game-winner), Mathew Barzal added a goal and an assist, and Tony DeAngelo chipped in with a power-play tally.
The Flyers just couldn’t generate much—only 21 shots total, went 0-for-3 on the power play, and looked flat after coming off a solid recent stretch (including a big win over the top team in the league a few days earlier).
Fans weren’t happy; there were boos at the end of periods and the game. This loss drops Philly to 24-18-9 and it puts them four points behind the Islanders in the Metro standings, who improved to 28-19-5 with the bounce-back win after dropping their previous two.

It always stings getting blanked at home in a divisional matchup. “We had no energy. Kind of disappointing, a division game, coming off the road,” Flyers’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet said after the loss. “That’s a tough effort, it’s on me. We are 3-11-4 after a win, it’s on me, I’ll wear it.”
What’d you think was the biggest issue last night? Goaltending, effort, or just Sorokin stealing it?
