It was a scene of happiness as Tyson Foerster was still on the board and Flyers’ General Manager announced, “The Philadelphia Flyers have (Proudly) selected Tyson Foerster from Barrie.” I could hear the Flyers fans go crazy even with this virtual draft and the “Let’s Go Flyers” chants being heard in every Flyers fans household. It really sent chills down your spine, and the people that live throughout the Delaware Valley in particular were going crazy I’m sure.

The Flyers shocked some with the pick of Foerster from the Colts at number 23. They needed a goal scorer/sniper, and this was one way to do it. There were weeks of speculation over who the Flyers would take with the 23rd pick, in particular. It was either going to be Luke Reichel, John-Jason Peterka, Brendan Brisson, or Hendrix Lappierre. Moreover, the Flyers faithful started hearing the possibility of the orange and black trading the pick for an immediate NHL player. This led to a ton of trade speculation, with rumors swirling left and right. We can finally put that all to rest now, as we don a new era of Flyers hockey.

Foerster needs help with his skating but he has a great pair of hands, and could be reminiscent of Corey Perry. He stands at 6’2, weighs 194 pounds, and is a gifted two-way Center/Right-Wing.

The young, slick gifted shooter in Foerster plays a solid two-way game. He can use some seasoning with his skating, but that can come in time. Foerster plays in all situations the coaching staff asks of him, and he plays with an aggressive edge. Moreover, this slickster in Foerster possessed one of the best shots in the draft in my opinion, as he tallied 10 goals in his first season for the Colts, and his vision really ranks off the charts. Foerster’s passing is just crisp tape to tape, and he has a knack for the net. This pick in Foerster is a high valued one, and one that will pay huge dividends in the future. Forester has tallied 46 goals total in two seasons with the Colts (36 this past season).

Hopefully, the Flyers will benefit from a gifted player in Foerster. This selection was a great start to the draft for the Flyers, who are apparently in a “Win-Now,” mode according to Fletcher. The proud orange-clad fans deserve this selection. They have supported the Flyers through the thick and thin, and it’s time the fans start reaping some of the benefits.
