The 2020-2021 season is coming to an end for the Flyers. They’re 22-19-7 and are in sixth place in the MassMutual East division. After making it to within one game of the Eastern Conference Final this past summer, the Flyers will find themselves watching the NHL playoffs from the comforts of there homes.

There are only eight games remaining for the Flyers. Four of those eight games come against the New Jersey Devils with tonight’s game being the second of four straight games between these two teams.

A QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE SEASON SERIES:

The Devils and the Flyers have played each other four times this season. That leaves four more games between these two teams before the regular season comes to a close.

The Devils, who come into tonight’s game with a record of 14-27-1, have not won a game since beating the Buffalo Sabres 6-3 back on April 8.

The Flyers, who beat the Devils by a final score of 4-3 in a shootout win on Sunday night after falling behind 3-1 in the third period, have also had a rough go in the month of April. In 13 games played in the month of April, the Flyers have won only five of them with two of those wins coming against the Boston Bruins.

Through four games played between these two teams this season, the Flyers are 3-1-0. There only loss to the Devils came back on March 23 when New Jersey sqeaked out a 4-3 win over the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk leads the Orange & Black in points against the Devils this season with seven. He’s scored two goals and assisted on five others.

On the other side of things, five different Devils are tied in points against the Flyers this season with three. Forward Michael McLeod has three goals.

The Flyers and Devils faceoff against each other tonight, Thursday night, Saturday night, and in the season finale for both teams on May 10.

GIROUX INCHES CLOSER TO 2ND ALL-TIME IN POINTS IN FLYERS FRANCHISE HISTORY

On Sunday night, Claude Giroux scored two goals in the span of 22 seconds against the Devils late in the third period to knot things up at 3-3. He also reached a major milestone on top of leading his team to a come from behind win.

Giroux passed former Flyer Brian Propp for sole possession of third place on the Flyers all time points leaders list with his second goal of the night. He has registered a total of 850 points in 935 career games with the Orange and Black. He could be in sole possession of second place at some point next season.

Giroux needs only 33 more points in a Flyers uniform to tie Bill Barber for second place all time in points in Flyers franchise history. He needs 34 more to move past Barber.

So far this season against the Devils, Giroux has registered six points in four games played. He’s scored three goals while assisting on three others. He also scored a shootout goal against the Devils on Sunday night as well.

LACZYNSKI HAS SUCCESSFUL SURGERY ON TORN LABRUM

The Flyers have been without forward Tanner Laczynski since April 15 when they took on the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old forward, his season has come to an end.

On Monday morning, the Flyers announced that Laczynski had surgery to repair a torn labrum on his right hip. The expected recovery time is 16 weeks which means he should be ready for training camp.

Laczynski, who made his NHL debut earlier this month, didn’t record a point in five games with the Flyers. He averaged 9:59 minutes of ice time per game.

EGOR ZAMULA SET TO MAKE NHL DEBUT

It’ll be an exciting night for 21-year-old defenseman Egor Zamula when the Flyers face off against the Devils tonight.

After being paired with Travis Sanheim at Flyers practice on Monday, the expectation is that Zamula will make is NHL debut tonight.

In 17 games with the Flyers AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Zamula registered five points.

Zamula was a hot commodity when playing for the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. In 120 games with the Hitmen, Zamula registered 95 points. He scored 19 goals and assisted on 76 others.

Zamula is listed at 6’3″, 176 lbs and is signed through 2022-23 season. He’ll then become a restricted free agent.

BETTER RECORD ON THE ROAD

Before last seasons pause on March 10, the Flyers were almost unbeatable at the Wells Fargo Center. They finished with a record of 25-6-4 on home ice.

On the road last year, the Flyers were a bit of a different story. They finished the season just one game over hockey .500 at 16-15-3.

Flip those results around at least for now.

The Flyers are 12-9-3 on the road this season and only 10-10-4 on home ice.

With eight games left on the schedule, the Flyers have four games remaining on home ice and on four games remaining on the road.

They’re on the road tonight taking on the Devils in Newark, NJ at the Prudential Center. They have a 15-16-4 record all-time playing there.
