The Flyers got on the board first after fellow All-Star Travis Konecny potted the games first goal. That really made the Flyers starting to feel good about themselves. In addition, the Flyers top line which consists of Joel Farabee, Sean Couturier, and Travis Konecny kept humming all night long.
Things got even brighter in the second stanza, as the orange and black scored to make it 2-0. Now things started to unravel a bit following disappointment after disappointment with the lackluster Power Play. The team had to know that the Columbus Blue Jackets would not go down without a fight, especially since both teams are in the same division together. Close to the end of the period, the Blue Jackets scored to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately, in the third period, time and time again the Flyers had trouble with clean zone exits. The Blue Jackets were humming at times. There was no shock that they were able to even the score at two, thus sending to the game into overtime, to which the Blue Jackets won 3-2 in a shootout.
The Flyers managed to salvage a point, which is nice, but they lost to a so-so team after being up two goals, “Keep scratching and clawing, take the point,” Flyers Head Coach Tortorella said following the game. “There are no gimmes, take the point,” said Konecny.
Let’s see how the Flyers rebound on Saturday at 1pm against a very good team in the Calgary Flames. There is no reason to panic, as the Flyers currently sit in the top Wild Card spot at the moment with 44 points.
