According to a report from Darren Dreger, the Philadelphia Flyers are looking to move on from Veteran Cam Atkinson. This would be a big move for the orange and black, as it appears likely the rumors are true.
The Flyers are near the cap threshold for this season, as it currently sits at close to 88 million dollars. To move Atkinson, the orange and black are willing to eat salary, approximately 50% of his contract. Moving on from Atkinson via trade, is definitely better than buying him out, which the Flyers would then have more dead cap space for the 2025-26 season.
We will see how will this workout for all parties involved, as it appears Atkinson does not want to move to San Jose. Moving on from Atkinson would entice him to get more playing time elsewhere, as well as, clear an important roster spot for tight capped Flyers at the moment.
“You know all thirteen years of my career. I have been a go to guy. I could contribute offensively, and be put in situations to have success. When you go from that, to being in and out of the lineup, on the fourth line with limited minutes, there is only so much you can do.” – Cam Atkinson said at exit interviews
Atkinson continues, “When I was out there, I tried my hardest to make some sort of an impact. I have never experienced that. Doing one to three shifts a period, it’s hard. I try to be a good teammate, and control what I can control and I’ll never go down that negative road. I want all my teammates to succeed and do well, and we all want to be difference makers. When your role does change, you find ways to contribute any way you can. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really on the scoresheet.”
