After some were flicking back and forth between the Flyers, game and election day coverage. Honestly, some may not realize that the Flyers are now dead last in the entire league in terms of winning percentage. The Nashville Predators also have a total of nine points like the Flyers, but they have one game in hand on them, so this title of dead last In the league goes to Philadelphia.
The same inconsistencies keep rearing their ugly heads: the orange and black just don’t have the puck enough, failed clears, turnovers, and looking gassed is becoming a nightly thing for this young team. It is still early in the season, but one can definitely understand why Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella would only answer a handful of questions after last night’s loss and give one word answers for that matter.
At times, Kolosov appeared to be playing by himself. The team in front of him just looks lethargic and gassed at times. Kolosov would make some nice saves, especially on a breakaway to Sebastian Aho in the third period. His own teammates crashed into him, so he couldn’t corral the rebound, this leading to a Carolina goal. Even Emil Andrae has his worst game as a Flyer in his brief NHL career. Andrae might continue to have these games, it’s part of learning.
Aleksei Kolosov is playing okay, just okay. The potential is there for him, and one can see how athletic he is. He is playing average hockey, and I thought as much last night against the Hurricanes. Kolosov definitely did not lose the game for Philadelphia, but he also didn’t make “That” save either. He’s still learning and It’s going to take him time.
Fortunately, for this young orange and black team. They are only 13 games into the season. And it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. The Flyers have plenty of time to right the ship, Pat, they have to play the game simple and get back to the basics. Give your goaltender a shot to win the game, especially one that is playing for the injured Samuel Ersson.
Few Positives
Morgan Frost scored his first goal of the season, and Owen Tippett finally hit the net to score his second goal of the season. It’s imperative to get these two going.
Matvei Michkov registered his 10th point of the season in just 13 games played. He finally reached double digits in .terms of points, and it only took him 13 games to do such. I’d say that’s pretty impressive. John Tortorella shortened is bench late in the third period, thus Michkov only saw limited shifts. He was not patched, I will make that clear.
The Flyers have to start righting the ship, sooner Rather than later, or else the season will fade quickly. It’s already starting, the Michkov nostalgia appears to be fading. Not with him as a player, but with the team.
