The Flyers or just not playing good hockey right now. They seem a little bit unsettled, timid, and not confident to make the right plays for breakouts. This is really hindering their offensive game, and it feels as though every single mistake is ending up in the back of their net. What is going on in Flyer Land? Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella alluded to such in his post-game press conference last night following another 4-1 defeat to the Washington Capitals. Tortorella stated multiple times during its press conference that the Flyers just have to follow their structure and they will come out of this hole.

Take a look at the first three minutes of the first period. Sean Couturier rings one off the crossbar, what if he scored there? Owen Tippett continues to be snake bitten. Tippett has it all kind of posts, to include a few side ones last night.

The second Power Play unit is having trouble with breakouts, shoot they were having trouble keeping the puck out of their own net last night, after a few gaffes by Ego to Zamula. Unfortunately, the Flyers went 0-3 with the main advantage yesterday, partially the reason is too much perimeter passing. It appears the unit is trying to find an open Lane, to which there isn’t one. How about flicking the Puck on net, thus creating a juicy rebound, “Our second power play unit hurt us. They score on two breakaways, we don’t,” said Tortorella following the game.

It’s the simplicity of the game that is the missing element for the Flyers. Each time they enter their opponents zone, the team is one and done, no rebounds or anything. At times it appears the team is lifeless, and this is embarrassing to some fans, “We just didn’t finish. We get up in the morning and start again,” Tortorella said following the game. It’s like they have no energy or will to to make the right plays. I get the frustrations from a player’s standpoint, but in the same token this is what product fans are watching right now.

The orange and black just have to keep the game simple. They shouldn’t be selfish with the puck, just make the right plays. The ugly goals have to start coming, and That’s yet another problem with this club right now. There is just too much finesse to their game. Just keep it simple and the goals will start coming..
