The Delaware have brought back a familiar face to try and right the ship in Alex Basey. Still in search of the Thunder’s first victory of the season, Basey, is back from a loan to Peoria Rivermen and the Vermilion County Bobcats in the SPHL. He really stepped up in a big way for a young Thunder club that really needed some direction a few years ago, much like Kevin Hayes did for the Flyers a few years ago. Basey just has a knack for the greasy areas of the net, and was a heck of a glue piece on and off the ice for the Thunder.

Basey, a native of Oshawa, ON, Canada, played in his first full season in the FPHL with the Thunder in 2019-20, and really had no problems becoming an instant hit in the locker room. The young 26-year-old just wanted to be placed on the map. Basey was not known for his scoring abilities, but he would fight and hit with the best of them. However, it was the way he carried himself on and off the ice, just doing whatever was asked of him by Head Coach Charlie Pens Sr.

This young man in Basey can pot a big goal. He’s a solid skater, and that’s one of the many reasons he is rarely caught out of position. His vision of the ice is impeccable though, as he tallied five assists in 21 games played for the Thunder in 2019-20 before the season was halted due to the Coronavirus.

The Thunder product in Basey appears to be a natural, and a player that knows Charlie Pens’s system to a “T”. He looked good in 2019-20 for the Thunder especially with the way he carries the puck up the ice. If he keeps producing at the rate he is currently doing, the sky could be the limit for him.

Basey is exactly the player this young Thunder team needs. This Thunder team needs a veteran direction, and Basey would be an integral part in making sure that happens.
