The Delaware Thunder currently find themselves in a pickle. President/Owner Charlie Pens Sr., and General Manager/Coach Lou Santini held a press conference yesterday to explain the current situation the Thunder find themselves in.

Unfortunately, they do not have a home for next season, as their lease has been revoked by the Delaware State Fair Grounds. Pens Sr. stated that it is one man, Bill Dimundi, withholding the Thunder from playing hockey in Harrington, DE next season, “How one man can effect the entire region,” Pens Sr, emphatically stated yesterday.

Pens Sr. continued, “The Thunder faithful…we’re confused, as to why we won’t be skating here next year and we are not getting any answers.” The Thunder’s lease is set to expire on April 15, 2023, so things have to move quickly here to be reinstated for next season. In addition, the Thunder are planning on building a new arena in the City of Dover, but obviously that will take two-three years to build. Regardless of the fact, the only thing that remains is the Thunder find themselves having to relocate or possibly go dormant for at least next season, as things stand right now anyways.

“The fair has decided to not extend our lease, we have to figure out why and hopefully come up with a solution.” – Charlie Pens Sr. stated on Tuesday March 28, 2023 via a press conference

This leaves Thunder fans in limbo. They have grown to love this team, and have embraced them as family. These are the people in the first state that suffer, asides from all the help the Thunder provide throughout the community, to include those that are recovering in hospitals and what not.
