People throughout the hockey world are uniting around the Flyers, and Oskar Lindblom. Lindblom is a young, talented rising star in the NHL. He is always giddy, smiling, upbeat, and has a one of a kind personality. Unfortunately, Lindblom received news that he has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (A rare form of cancer) in his upper body last week. Forget about hockey for a second, health is far more important in life.
The Delaware Thunder are a new hockey team in the FPHL, and their home base is in a small town of slower-lower Delaware, in Harrington. Some players of the Thunder heard the news of Oskar Lindblom’s case before the game started this past Friday night, just a few hours after the Lindblom news broke.
Ryan Marker talked to me before warm-ups, and you can see him overcome with emotion, as he then began to rub his face in disbelief, “Unbelievable, just a darn shame,” he stated to me. Marker then exhaled as he then skated onto the ice for warm-ups. Some of the Thunder players know that this site writes on Flyers hockey, and Marker just happens to be one of them.
“I don’t want to see this happen to anybody,” Marker said following the game. “I can only imagine what he’s going through. I will pray for him, his family, friends, and the Flyers.”
Aaron Taylor, a prized Goaltender for the Thunder just couldn’t believe it as he looked down then answered, “It’s ashame. I can only imagine what he is going through. I never want to see it happen to anybody. My gosh. Prayers for him, and his family.” Afterwards, Taylor the class guy that he is asked me if I was ok, beings I have been around Oskar, and have spoken to him personally with covering the team.
Hockey is more than a sport. The players not only care for each other, but they care for everyone. It doesn’t matter if your white, green, orange, or purple, and the Thunder are that team. The Thunder are just the latest hockey team to offer their sympathy for the Flyers and Lindblom. Even a Thunder fan, who just happened to be a Buffalo Sabres fan after further talking to him said, “I just read that about Oskar Lindblom. I’m so sorry.”
The hockey world is a unique one. It’s teams like the Thunder that really shows the world that these players are more than just players, they are human beings. Just know that the little small hockey team in Harrington, Delaware will be there when a player needs some type of sympathy, or prayers for support.
