Tanner Laczynski is a new NHL’er who is fighting to stay in the lineup every game, but to have the support of his head coach during one of the best experiences of his life means a lot. It’s easy to say you are there for someone, but actions prove more than words, “I had a discussion with him (John Tortorella), he said you know just go be with your family. It was a nice to have those two or three days off to be there for my wife and our beautiful boy,” Tanner Laczynski said smiling after practice yesterday, following the birth of his new baby boy.
Thankfully his wife Madison and his baby are both healthy and doing fine, now it’s time for Tanner to get some sleep, “Pretty tired, but we got this bus trip to catch up on some sleep,” Laczynski said. Laczynski said his baby was born at 12:28am Saturday morning on 10-29-2022. What a day/night it was for the Laczynski’s, witnessing your child being born is a wonderful gratifying experience.
Tanner is 25-years-old and hails from Shorewood, Illinois. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 2016 NHL Draft. Laczynski formerly played for Ohio State University, to which he posted 143 points (48g,95a) in 138 games played. Although, he hasn;t produced at the rate he would like at the NHL level, Laczysnki is still playing good hockey. His good hockey sense/IQ is one reason Tortorella likes to use him in every situation.
In the 2020-21 season, Laczynski suited up in 14 games for the Phantoms, while posting six goals and four assists. He then received a brief call-up to the Flyers. He played in five games, and then unfortunately he sustained a season ending injury. Laczynski ended the season on Injured Reserve with a torn hip labrum. Unfortunately, injuries got the best of him last season, and he only ended up; suiting up for the Phantoms for 28 games.
He is healthy for once, and thriving in his new role in the NHL. Again he may not be producing at the rate he would like, but Laczynski is playing well defensively. Laczynski is also winning the battles along the boards, and just having fun out there.
