The Flyers fell in their second pre-season game 4 to 2, but there was some standouts to talk about from last night’s game against the Boston Bruins.

Cam York

York is clearly headed with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. However, he is making the most of his opportunity, and he showed calmness last night on the power play.

The Flyers top brass are hoping that he is able to quarterback the Power Play of the orange and black for year’s to come, as he continues to get chance after chance with manning the power play, whether it be in Philly or in Lehigh. He’s good with holding pucks at the blue line, and York is able to create offensively with the man advantage because of his poise and movement. He moves the puck very well.

Last night, he tallied a power play assist on Joel Farabee’s second goal of the night. Mind you this was Cam York’s preseason debut with the Flyers. His skating is what sets him apart from other prospects. York is a good skater, has a good keen hockey sense, as he anticipates plays well. His vision compliments his reads off forechecks, which allows for a crisp tape to tape pass.

Nick Seeler

Seeler figures to be the teams seventh defenseman at this point, and it’s well earned. He’s blocking tons of shots in pre-season games, and playing the game smartly.

He is one heck of a depth signing made by Chuck Fletcher this past offseason. Between him and Adam Clendening, both are fighting for that seventh defensemen spot. Seeler says, “I’m excited to be here. This is a great run organization from top to bottom.” He receives praise from Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault with blocking shots. These are the little things that stand out, and this is one way to make this team. Well done Seeler.

Now for players that will be on the roster for tonight’s game against the Washington Capitals at 7:00 p.m.

Joel “Goal” Farabee

The Flyers are looked to redeem themselves in a big way this season. A young 21-year-old in Joel Farabee is a young budding star in Philly. Philly Joel was on a tear all season long last season, and he lead the Flyers in goals with 20. Farabee had such a strong season that he is starting to remind me of a former Flyer sniper in Simon Gagne.

At the age of 21, Gagne recorded 33 goals and registered 33 assists for a total of 66 points in 79 games played. Farabee at the age of 21, has 20 goals and 18 assists in 55 games played. In a shortened 56 game season it becomes that much harder to eclipse Gagne’s scoring totals, however, Philly Joel got close that’s for sure.

Whatever the case maybe, Farabee potted two goals last night on the power play in his first pre-season game action of the season. He is the next budding star in Philadelphia in terms of athletes. Farabee plays a 200 foot game, and is just so darn good at killing penalties. Killing penalties is a crucial attribute to have, and Farabee does it well.

Farabee is on the roster for tonight, and it comes as no shock.

Felix Sandström

Sandström needed to have a good game, and he provided. He was locked in, and made 12 saves on 13 shots faced. Sandström finished the game with a .923 Save Percentage.

Fast forward to the 2020-21 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. For about half the season it was anything but blissful. Sandström moved back and forth between the Phantoms and the Flyers Taxi Squad gracefully. Moreover, he spent two-three weeks on the Taxi Squad roster at one point over the course of this season. Sandström never once complained that we know of, and I guarantee he would say it is part of the job. I explain this because his numbers did not do him justice last season with the Phantoms, as he has compiled a 4-3-2 record, 3.45 GAA, and a .897 Save Percentage. However, Sandström played well in the past four to five games, while becoming a brick wall for the Phantoms.

Sandström plays well as he sees more playing time. Some goalies need to play to keep their game fresh, especially for confidence purposes, and Sandström is one of those netminders. This finally may be the shot he has waited for.

He is on the roster for tonight if things go south for Martin Jones, as Jones is expected to start the whole game. However, Sandström being the backup for tonight speaks volumes of how the Flyers view him.

Tune in tonight’s pre-season game against the Washington Capitals at 7pm.
