Sean Couturier has made some careless mistakes and poor play in recent games (particularly the back-to-back losses to Carolina on Dec 13-14 and the OT loss to Vegas on Dec 12). He’s turning the puck over more frequently, and blowing some coverages. Here is an example of such from last night against the Carolina Hurricanes:
- In the Dec 14 shootout loss to Carolina, recaps noted turnovers and blown coverages by Couturier.
- Couturier has made defensive lapses (e.g., losing coverage in 3-on-3 OT or bad line changes), with one prominent Flyers writer calling his recent games “bad” and noting mistakes that “youth would be benched for.”

Overall, this season (31 games), Couturier has been productive with five goals and 17 points (including his current four game pointless streak). Recently, his play has dipped, especially since he has blasted Matvei Michkov for cherry picking and not playing the right way.
He started strong with points in many early games, but has hit a rough patch mid-season, including a 17-game goal drought from mid-October to late November 2025, where production dipped noticeably (e.g., stretches with minimal points). There are also minor injury concerns and heavy workload mentions under coach Rick Tocchet, contributing to inconsistency.

While not at his prime Selke-winning levels (76-point seasons pre-injuries), he’s not playing poorly—more like solidly for his age (33) and role on a rebuilding Flyers team. If the recent hot streak continues, he could exceed expectations. Flyers fans have debated his $7.75M cap hit, but his leadership and two-way game remain valuable.
