Flyers’ Captain Sean Couturier recently commented on the team’s performance during the 2025-26 season. On January 5, 2026, following practice, Couturier told reporters:
“I think we have surprised some people with the way we have been playing [throughout the first half of the season].”
This comes after a strong start to the season, with the Flyers holding a record of around 21-12-7 as of early January 2026, positioning them competitively in the Metropolitan Division and making them one of the more unexpected contenders this year. They currently sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division.
Believe it or not, they just beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 on January 3, with Couturier contributing two assists and playing a key role on a dominant line with Owen Tippett and rookie Denver Barkey. The team has shown solid defensive play and depth under head coach Rick Tocchet, exceeding many pre-season expectations, thus far.
