On Thanksgiving Eve, the Flyers were heavily outplayed by the Nashville Predators. The orange and black just could not battle their way through the Predators forecheck. But, the game took a turn with the Predators taking a too many men penalty late in the game, which eventually lead to the game tying goal at two by Morgan Frost.
Sean Couturier then handled things in the extra stanza, and potted the game winner, “Offensively, I thought we were moving our feet, creating a lot of chances, seam passes, but at the same time execute and learn from our mistakes for a full 60 minutes,” Couturier said of what the game plan was before the game. Unfortunately, this did not transpire, and the Flyers were lucky to escape with two points.
Aleksei Kolsov won back to back games for the first time in his brief NHL career. Kolosov was very good after giving up a soft first goal of the game. From then on, I thought he played very well, and shut the door to ultimately win the game. He made 25 saves in a winning effort.
Morgan Frost is starting to heat up finally. He sent the game into overtime, and Frost is now on a two game point streak (2g,1a). As our very own Jamey Baskow wrote yesterday, the Flyers should hold onto Frost, at least until the trade deadline to see if he finally comes around offensively. Frost is a Restricted Free Agent at season’s end, so they could potentially move on from him if he does not start producing.
In the end, the orange and black came away with a much needed two points, and they continue to stay afloat in the Wild Card race. Now the Flyers are off until Friday, where they will host the New York Rangers in their annual Black Friday game at 1pm.
