The 16-13-4 Flyers finally got a much needed goal by Flyers Samuel Morin late in the third period to beat the New York Rangers on a beautiful spring Saturday in South Philadelphia. According to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Morin was given a beer shower for netting his first career NHL goal following the game. The Flyers played really well all through out the game and Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott had a strong performance with a lot of nice saves, and the Flyers defense was much improved as they only gave up one goal to the Rangers.

Just over 10 minutes into the first period, Ryan Strome flicked a beautiful pass to Mika Zibanejad for the tip in goal to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

With 4:12 left in the second period, Michael Raffl tripped Adam Fox for a power play opportunity for the Rangers. The Rangers had some solid chances at grabbing a 2-0 lead, but they couldn’t get a good shot on Flyers goalie Brian Elliott.

Less than nine minutes to play in the second period, the Flyers got a 5-on-3 opportunity. The Flyers could not convert on the two man advantage, but scored at the end of the second penalty. Shayne Gostisbehere fired a missile snap shot which was deflected by Nolan Patrick past Igor Shesterkin to tie the game up at one (assisted by Shayne Gostisbehere and Sean Couturier).

The Flyers finally took the lead with less than five minutes left in the third period when the Flyers Sam Morin got his first NHL goal made a terrific snap shot  from the left point to give the Flyers a one goal lead. The Flyers were able to hold on to win 2-1 for a much needed win, “I’m really happy,” Morin said following the game. “It’s the best moment in my life. I don’t score a lot of goals. It was a big one. A big W for us. It was a big moment for me. I’m going to enjoy it and reset for tomorrow. We got a big game against Buffalo in two days. We can’t be too high. Just enjoy the moment and go after it.”

“It was pretty har,” Morin said. “It’s hard when you’re a defensive defenseman and trying to go forward. I was a little bit lost out there. I think everyone can tell. I tried my best. I went down and played defense. I played defense good. Got the call-up. Chuck told me that I’m a D man now. I’m a D.    I’m going to play defense for the rest of the year. That’s kind of what I wanted and I’m extremely happy about that. I’m a D man. For sure, I’m a D man.”

NEXT UP: The Flyers are back in action on Monday, March 29th against the 6-23-4 Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo, NY. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM EST and can be seen on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

  1. Just two corrections, Patty tipped a wicked snapshot from Ghost, Patty didn’t shoot it. Also, In the Morin interview part, it says har instead of hard. Great article though!
