Denik Sport has reported the unfortunate passing of former Flyers’ goaltender Roman Čechmánek. Čechmánek used to save pucks using his helmet when he was a Flyer.
Čechmánek was drafted at the age of 29. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 17, 2000. Čechmánek tallied a 35-15-6 record and a .921 save percentage in his first season in Philadelphia
Unfortunately, Čechmánek has struggled a bit in his post hockey life. However, his passing is very unfortunate for all hockey fans, most notably Flyers fans. He passed at a young age of 52.
Keith Jones issued the following statement:
“The Philadelphia Flyers are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of former goaltender Roman Čechmánek. His passing at too young of an age is heartbreaking to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
