A steady Right-Handed Defenseman in Ryan Ellis, who stands at 5’10 and weighs 180 pounds was a top pairing veteran Defenseman with Ivan Provorov, when healthy. That’s just it when healthy, as Ellis has only suited up for the Flyers in four games for the Flyers last season, and unfortunately he missed all of last season as expected, per former Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Thursday December 1, 2022.

“I do not expect him to play this season, and if he plays it’s a bonus.” – Chuck Fletcher said back at last seasons Training Camp

To me this is concerning, Ellis missed the majority of the 2021-22 season with a hip/pelvis injury, but quickly corrected himself by saying it was a lower body injury, just sad news.

Fletcher did say that Ellis’s injury could be career threatening back at Training Camp in 2022, but he did not elaborate on that during his initial presser to the media. You just really feel for Ellis, man that’s tough news. Sad news Regardless, he’s a human being.

As I have stated throughout the Summer surgery is not an option for Ryan Ellis:

“There’s a psoas component, there’s a hip component, there’s an adductor component, so I’m not sure if you go in and repair one part it’s going to fix everything.” – Chuck Fletcher

This Ellis situation is a weird one. From day to day, week to week, to missing the entire season, all without knowing exactly what his injury was.

Current Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere said that everyone is healthy (Roster wise except for prospects J.R. Avon and Matteo Mann), except for Ellis. He did say that Ellis will not see the ice, during his presser to the media two days ago.

Ellis will eventually be moved to LTiR status, and provide the orange and black with some cap relief.

This 30-year-old Defenseman in Ellis is great with gap control. He suffocates his opponents, and has no problem transitioning from the defensive zone. unfortunately, Ellis may not suit up again.

Last season Tortorella said he wants Ellis to be around the team. He says it’s important to keep injured players around the team, so they don’t feel ostracized. We will have to see what Tortorella says it is opening presser to the media later today about this situation.

Both Sean Couturier and Cam Atkinson are finally removed off of IR (Injured Reserve) status. This is great news for this young argent black team, is they receive two more than qualified veterans to help this club grow.

Newly acquired Victor Mete has also been removed off of IR status.
