A natural Right-Handed defenseman in Ryan Ellis was acquired by the Flyers this past Saturday right before the roster freeze went into effect that will last through July 21st after the expansion draft is complete.
Ellis, 30-years-old, is slated to be a top pairing defenseman with Ivan Provorov, where he is expected to provide Provorov with tutelage and mentorship. Provorov is a minutes eating defenseman, much like Ellis. When healthy Ellis is a fantastic defenseman that seals gaps well. Here were some key notes from Ellis’s first meeting with Philly media.
- “I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. I’m a team first guy.” – Ryan Ellis
- Ryan Ellis says he broke a bone in his hand last year, not a shoulder injury.
- Ryan Ellis has no idea where the reports came from about his shoulder being hurt.
- “I didn’t envision any of this. I’ve never been traded in my life. I have to move on and go forward. It was sad. I haven’t talked to everyone yet (Old teammates). I’m excited to be a part of the Flyers organization.”- Ryan Ellis
- Ryan Ellis: “I’m happy”
- Ryan Ellis said he shattered his knuckle last year and that’s why he missed time.
- Ellis says that he just wants to be another guy in the room.
- “He’s an unbelievable player.”- Ryan Ellis on Ivan Provorov
- “Its a bit of shock here for me and my family. But, I’m going to get settled and give a chase for the Cup.”- Ryan Ellis
Ellis looked to be in a bit of shock while answering questions, but indeed happy. I do not think it has set in yet that he has been traded. Give it more time for him to get acclimated to Philly.
