Railers hosted the Royals last night before heading to downtown Reading Saturday night. Worcester took the overtime win, 7-6 on their home ice before packing for the road. Reading had lost to the Railers up last night, but the Railers were still waiting to beat them in regulation.

Reading opened up the game strong by scoring the game’s first two goals. Charlie Gerard opened the scoring with a snipe under the blocker, his 18th goal on the feed from Sellar. Devon Paliani netted the second goal batting home the rebound out of mid-air, for his 6th of the season. Quin Ryan put the Railers on the board with a power-play goal, under a minute left in the first.

Worcester carried the momentum into the locker room and into the second period. Just under three minutes into the period Anthony Repaci knotted things up at two a piece. The Royals outshot the Railers in the second period 14-12, nothing much happened other than a few minor penalties killed off.

With the Royals and Railers knotted up and with great goaltending on both ends, the possibility of overtime happening for the first time on home ice for Reading was looking to become likely. Ryan Mackinnon had other plans in mind, firing a one-timer over the blocker of Maier. The Royals still had plenty of time and put on loads of pressure and even changed the momentum with a big Colin Felix fight win, but Worcester had an answer for everything.

The Railers would hold on for their first regulation win over the Royals this season. Reading earned one of the possible four points in this weekend’s home-and-away series. They look to bounce back when they head to Glen Falls, NY to kick off a home-and-away back-to-back on February 3rd and 4th.

â€śObviously not getting the outcome is a little disappointing, but the effort from our group I thought was great. We didn’t let up at any time, we were consistent with all of our lines we were contributing offensively generating scoring chances… You run into a hot goalie once in a while who was able to make saves and could’ve easily been in our favor tonight, but in my mind, I think it’s one of those games where you might’ve outplayed the opposition and you don’t get the outcome you hope for, that’s just the way the game goes sometimes. So, I can’t fault the guys for the effort level or execution it’s just one of those nights.”

Head Coach, James Henry following the loss

“I thought we came out strong there and brought some good energy… I thought we played well tonight Maiesy played great in net and they were a pretty solid team tonight.”

Charlie Gerard’s assessment on tonight’s game

“It’s been great obviously me and Newts have some pretty good chemistry, playing with him for a while now. Mongo’s a great player got speed, he can make plays, and make decisions with the puck and it’s been good. Gotta keep working, couple days of practice will get that chemistry going.”

Charlie Gerard on the succesful paring with Newton and Mongo

“Those guys are a big heavy team they play hard they got all their effort behind them and you know they’ve been fighting a bit so their hungry looking for a win. It’s just two hard-working teams going head to head not many mistakes so you gotta capitalize on the ones that you have.”
