“You have to give the guys a lot of credit. Came very prepared for today, great effort all around from everybody. We were consistent throughout the game. Managed the puck very well, the opportunities that we had in the offensive zone we took advantage o,f and obviously some big performances from a few players. You know Paliani and Hoffman getting a couple goals that’s a great confidence booster for those guys. Overall just a great team win.”

1st Period

Isaac Johnson found the back of the net, netting his 14th of the season just 2:23 into the game. 2nd Period

Charlie Gerard brought the game back within 1 netting his 23rd of the season :48 into the 2nd period. Todd Skirving netted his 24th of the season and the last goal of the game on the man advantage at 14:16.

3rd Period

No goals were scored in this period Reading would have a few penalties to kill and the Growlers only had to kill 1 which they did. Reading outshot Newfoundland 13-4 in the period, Cavallin had all the answers. Maier stopped all 4 he faced as well.

Newfoundland would hold on to the 4-2 win Monday afternoon. Todd Skirving earned the 1st star he had 2 points (1G, 1A) 3 shots, and a +1 rating. Cavallin stopped 33 of the Royals’ 35 shots. He came up big in the 3rd when the Royals’ pressure amped up when Newfoundland’s was lacking.

“Kind of boils down to playing a complete game. You look at how we showed up for Saturday’s game great overall start to finish and then for today waited around a little bit. We weren’t good enough during the first period and that cost us the game. You know from the second period on  I thought we played well, we played hard, I mean we competed for pucks, but you know playing against a top team and you take a period off they’re gonna make you pay and they’re going to capitalize on their opportunities and I feel like that’s what happened today.”
