First Period
Keenan Suthers kicked things off, netting his fourth of the post-season firing the puck blocker side at 3:34. Despite trailing 1-0, Reading had outshot the Growlers 9-4in the frame.
Second Period
No goals in the period a couple of penalties though. One for each club. Newfoundland outshot the Royals 9-6 in the period.
Third Period
Isaac Johnson extended the Growlers’ lead, with his third of the playoffs at 3:11. Orrin Centazzo capped off Newfoundland’s game 1 victory with an empty netter at 18:25.
NOTE
Reading had not been shut out at all during the 2022-23 regular season, and hadn’t been shut out since game 4 of the north division quarterfinals during the 2021-22 post-season.
