Royals fall in a Shootout in Preseason Opener, against Adirondack.

First Period

An odd opening period would be what the small crowd in the Santander would see. The lone goal forced a goaltending change which would put Eric Dop between the pipes to finish the period. Maier was taken out after a skate blade had come loose and so did the defense. Travis Broughman slid the puck into the awning cage with Nolan fighting to slide back at 16:01.

Second Period

A quiet period to say the least in the scoring column, but on the penalty side 3 were called. Adirondack had 2 power play chances but was denied on both opportunities.

Third Period

An eventful period to say the least was kicked off at the 4:44 mark of the frame, when Broughman found twine again extending the Thunder lead to two. Tyson Fawcett put the Royals on the board at 6:52. Alec Butcher knotted things up with a power play tally at the 9:18 mark. Travis Broughman found the back of the net yet again with his third of the night, completing the natural hat-trick and giving Adirondack the upper hand at 10:48. Yvan Mongo tied things up, forcing overtime with a nifty backhand goal late in the period, at 16:18.

Overtime

Despite a power play chance in the session the Royals failed to find twine as did, Adirondack. Shots were 6-4 in favor of Reading, game total was also in the Royals favor at 37-34.

Shootout

Ryan Chyzowski kicked things off for Reading, trying to slide the puck past Petizian, but Matt had the answer denying Chyzowski in the opening attempt. On the other side, Andy Willis potted home his attempt firing it past Maier giving Adirondack an advantage. Mason Millman would even things up with a saucy move and sliding it back door past Petizian. Alex Dicarlo also found twine for the Thunder in the second round of the shootout putting the pressure on Butcher. Alec came in strong and tried to pot it on the backhand but was denied by Petizian to solidify the Thunder win.
