The definition of a pure goal scorer is, “In some sports, an attacker is a specific type of player, usually one whose role involves aggressive player.” Corey Mackin sure was that for the Reading Royals, and then some this past season. This young man has really evolved into a playmaking machine at both ends of the ice.

Mackin really showcased himself this past season. He left players and goaltenders in the dust, as they are seen banging their sticks against the crossbar in frustration. Mackin suited up in 58 games for the Royals, picked his shot for 20 goals, and chipped in 26 assists. I mean what didn’t Mackin do well? Mackin played in any situation the coaching staff asked, used his great vision of the ice to lead plays up the ice, and played a really good two-way game. Simply put, Mackin showed the Royals that he could play at the ECHL level.

A young stud in Mackin, doesn’t to often disappoint his family in attendance as he was born in Philadelphia, PA, nor the proud Royals fans that make the trek for games. He usually puts on a show, as he pots a beautiful goal after a beautiful goal. This young 25-year-old appears to be dedicated to the sport of hockey, and really bleeds the Purple. However, Mackin hails from the City of Brotherly love, so I’m pretty certain he’s a huge Flyers fan.

The young 25-year-old in Mackin pushes the play, and is physical enough to handle the rigors of a full ECHL hockey season. Mackin works hard in the summer, weight wise, for physicality purposes. Moreover, he also looks good with the pace of game against most teams, as well. The young man just continued to soar to new heights, and he should be back with the Royals next season.

Mackin appears to be a natural, and a player that knows how to put up points. He looked very good this season for the Royals, especially with the way he carried the puck up the ice. If he keeps producing like he did this past season, then make no mistake Mackin has a good shot at reaching the AHL possibly next season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Whatever the case maybe, Mackin is what the doctor ordered, offensive wise, for this young Royals team.
