The Royals opened the new year hot winning three straight. A dominant win on the road in Norfolk and a home-away back-to-back sweep of the Worcester Railers on the 6th and 7th.
Reading then hit the road for Wheeling for a mid-week match-up against the Nailers. Reading lost 5-2 snapping that short three game win streak.
The upcoming weekend of the 13th and 14th, Reading hosted divisional foe, Adirondack. The Royals held the Thunder to two goals in two days, winning 5-1 on Friday the 13th, and 3-1 on Saturday the 14th.
The Royals hosted the Maine Mariners on MLK Day for a Monday Day Game. The Mariners took us down with a lone player in Pat Shea, Pat had a hat-trick and scored more goals than the Royals.
Reading capped off the homestand on a high note. On Friday the 20th the Royals downed the struggling Norfolk Admirals 5-3. Despite the Admirals being a struggling club they are a fighting club and showed it, especially during this game, they fought until the end.

The Royals then hit the road to play the Admirals this time in their barn. With the game tied at one heading into the third, Reading put their foot on the accelerator scoring four goals in the period and downing the Admirals 5-1. Reading also outshot Norfolk 43-18.
Reading then hit the road for a mid-week match-up, up north in Trois-Rivières, Wednesday the 25th. What would have been an 8-hour trip took the club 11 hours to reach their destination, because of the heavy snowfall. The Royals made it safely and downed the Lions 3-1 with two goals from the top line of Mongo and Gerard in the third period.
Reading was then set for downtown Massachusetts to face the Worcester Railers. It was a great game both teams clawing back into the game to keep it close. The Royals tied the game with just 26 seconds left in regulation. Collin Adams would get the last laugh for the Railers just 53 seconds into overtime he netted the game-winner past Maier.
Royals and Railers would head to downtown Reading to face each other again this time at Santander Arena. The Royals opened strong with the game’s first two goals. The Railers would score a late first-period power play goal and carry the momentum over into the second with an early goal. The Railers would then score their third unanswered with just under 9 minutes to play. The Royals had plenty of time and chances to tie the game but Worcester had all the answers, they would hold on to the 3-2 win on the 28th.
The Royals finished the month of January not on the best note but had a very strong month, they sit 2 points above Maine and trail the division-leading Growlers by nine. Reading finished the month 8-2-1 and has a record of 25-12-4 overall.
