Rasmus Risolainen has played very well for the orange and black this season. He has refined his game, as he doesn’t look to crush his opponents in the boards on every play. Ristolainen has gotten rid of that first hit mentality, rather he suffocates his opponents with excellent gap control and by taking the body.

Even with how well he has played, and given his favorable contract. He was still mentioned in lots of trade rumors, and rumors were swirling around Risto until the trade deadline passed.

This Flyers Defenseman became reliable, and really played a sound two-way game last season. He was strong as he became a well-balanced skater. Ristolainen also plays with a physical component to his game. He stands at 6’4, weighs 218 pounds, and can clear the porch in a big way.

Unfortunately, Risto has missed about the last week and a half of hockey with an upper body injury. Today, Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella addressed that with the media, as he was asked of Ristolainen was going to come into the lineup soon, “No” Tortorella said adamantly.

Tortorella continues to say that he does not expect Rasmus Ristolainen to play anytime soon. It will be interesting to see if this is a season ending injury, but the Flyers say he is week to week, so it doesn’t bode well for a possible return to the lineup before the season ends.
