Yesterday’s Flyers game started out well. They scored right away, and again, and again before you knew it the Flyers were up 3-0. The forwards were aggressive, and the defensemen were unstoppable. The orange and black just keep rolling along. I was at work when the game started, however I was able to watch a little on my Hulu app, but I still had calls to answer, emails to respond to, and things to e-file. Fortunately, I was home for the third period. I ordered dinner, ate, the game ended, and then unfortunately I got sick.
I woke up at my usual time and put on the news. That was when I saw all the cancellations, NBA and WNBA. MLS only played one game. MLB had some cancellations and games. However, the NHL did nothing, and the Flyers were the first to play. I will admit, I got caught up in what I did see of the game yesterday without any thought to current events. In hindsight, I think the team could have taken a stand, they could have started something important, and they could have opted not to play. This really should have been done yesterday in my opinion and the Flyers/Islanders game is cancelled for tonight. However, this turned out to be a missed opportunity for the entire NHL, but they are trying to make it right in the end.
I come from a family that has some servicemen. I am a proud patriot, people can support those that have been affected by racial injustice. You do not have to understand to support it, you just have to acknowledge it happens. Victims of racial injustice and police brutality have every right to be heard. They deserve validation. But please know this, I am against violent protests, I do not support the destruction of personal property or the injury/death of anyone involved in said protests. Please know this, I wholeheartedly believe there are good cops out there. They are in the minority amongst the others. I am not so ignorant to believe that all officers are bad. Just as I am not so ignorant to believe that all protestors are violent.
Long story short, in a word of Logan Couture’s we need more Evander Kane’s more Matt Dumba’s. I am a single mom of a biracial child. I have experienced things. She has experienced things. Racism is real. All you have to do is engage in conversation. Real healing will not take place until we engage in really honest dialogue. Just ask me any question and I will answer about my personal experiences honestly. It can be done, look at Daryl Davis. But then again, what do I know? I’m just a female novice
