Travis Konecny, what more can anyone say about Travis Konecny. He’s a ball of energy, showing and giving the Flyers life. Konecny was stellar all season long, for the most part, and he really matured into a very good leader and player for the orange and black. Even so-much-so, Konecny finished the season with 33 goals and 35 assists for 68 points, and he finished the season with an “A” on his chest.
With the Flyers starting out to a 15-10-2 record to begin the season, a player that really shined was Travis Konecny. Looking forward, there was never a doubt that Travis was back to his old ways, and becoming a leader inside the Flyers locker room. Konecny had that feistiness from a few years ago, but even more impressive was his scoring abilities. He had 16 goals through the first 26 games of the season, and Konecny at one point was tied for sixth in the league in that particular category, “All the young guys are a year older from last year. We’re trying to make a good culture that everyone falls into, continues to work and believes in each other,” Konecny said following the victory against the Arizona Coyotes.
Even with all his success, Konecny always credited someone else, “He’s helped my game a lot. He’s one of the best defensive guys in the game,” Konecny said of Sean Couturier. Konecny said Couturier has helped him become a more mature player.
As much as people downed Konecny in 2021-22, I believe that he used that negativity to better himself and that really helped out the team. John Tortorella spoke very highly of him:
“He’s just a really good player. He knows he’s a good player. When his mind is straight, and he doesn’t get caught up in the antics of it all, and just plays, his engine is so good. It’s fun to watch him play.” – John Tortorella said following a Colorado game

It’s the effort on a nightly basis that had this team believing in one another, not to mention it was ‘Us against the World’ mentality. Konecny wants to stay in Philly, and talks about a contract extension will transpire in the near future. I surmise by July 1st. Flyers fans…he’s going nowhere, especially after Konecny says, “I love Philly,” when asked about future contract extension talks at exit interviews.
“I love Philly.” – Travis Konecny said at 2024 exit interviews
There were lots of whispers surrounding his contract extension and what is camp seeking. This past weekend some said that his camp was seeking $10 million per season, which is probably true. This is the first leg of the negotiation process, and that’s what it is, negotiations. This does not mean that he will end up being a $10 million per season player, as I don’t think he’s worth that, but during a negotiation process one always starts high.
To be quite frank, I could see Konecny re-signing for 6 or 7 years, with an AAV of $8.5 million per season. Some key factors with his cap hit rising are the salary cap increase and inflation. This number above is a more realistic value of the player. He’s a leader inside the locker room, and one of the Flyers best players.
A good comparable for a new Konecny contract is Timo Meier, as Kevin Kurtz of the Athletic, said in a tweet this past weekend. Meier signed an 8 year-$70.4 million ($8.8 million AAV) contract extension with the New Jersey Devils in June of 2023.
“All of them. I won’t name names because I don’t want to forget someone. These guys have done a terrific job just sticking with it, and it’s fun to watch,” Konecny said. This team is believing and the organization appears to be putting the worst behind them. Let’s see how this goes, and how this all pans out in the near future with the Konecny talks.
