E115 – The Flyers Post Draft Review & Free Agency Effect (Ft. Steve Kournianos)
Throughout the months we have discussed the idea of providing hope to the fanbase and to some degree the Flyers have done that. However, just like every step forward, there always seems to be an apology. It started with drafting promising younger center Cutter Gauthier 5th overall in the draft. A pick most people can get behind. Then making a big move like brining in Tony DeAngelo who was 4th in the league among defenseman in Points Per 60 minutes. A player who comes with controversy, but should absolutely help their dreadful powerplay from last season After the excitement faded it became clear that the flyers have a lot of money locked up in LTIR space and not enough in available cap. Backed into a corner, the Flyers then chose to disappoint the fanbase by buying out, beloved long-time Flyer, Oskar Lindblom. Now heading into free agency, the fanbase has its eye on South Jersey native and Flyers fan, Johnny Gaudreau as the prize. Gaudreau is someone that this fanbase has dreamt about brining home for years. Now there is finally an opportunity that could fade away before it began. Does Fletcher have the creativity to bring Johnny Hockey home? As of right now, not many are confident, but it’ll be Fletchers’ biggest challenge yet.
