The Flyers have changed their leadership dramatically from the previous season and everyone around the NHL is taking notice. Add in the recent Ivan Provorov trade that was praised by the national and local media, it’s obvious that this is really is a new era of Flyers hockey since it’s been years since the media haas supported a Flyers’ GM. The Flyers have also brought in two new Special Advisors in Patrick Sharp and John LeClair, players who would be widely known by any Flyers fan of the past 20 years. It almost has the feeling of getting the gang back together to bring the franchise back to relevancy. While some people might complain about the Flyers brining in players who were previously part of the organization, demanding new blood, they also can’t deny it feels like they’re picking a fantasy lineup. Having John LeClair and Patrick Sharp back with the organization is like a dream scenario. It will be interesting to see if the Flyers continue down this path and bring in some more previous stars with the ability to instill progress throughout the organization.
The Flyers also took the time to extend qualify offers to restricted free agents Noah Cates, Cam York, Morgan Frost, Olle Lycksell, and Ronnie Attard. No decision has been made of yet, but with the signing of young players, the trading to add more draft picks and young assets, and brining a plethora of changes in the player development department, before the offseason has even begun, tells you that Briere came in here with a plan and he is not hesitating to execute. These types of moves should continue to bring more confidence to the fanbase, but if he wants to sustain it that approval, he’ll have to prove it at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft at the end of June.
