The Flyers defense is a work in progress. But what will it look like to start the season. There seems to be so much riding on Travis Sanheim and Cam York at the present moment, that confidence in the team’s ability to stop goals from going into their net is at an all time low. While the offense has plenty of opportunities for promise, the defense really only has two high end prospects in Cam York and Emil Andrae. What does York and Andrae’s next step look like? Will it be enough to change perception on the readiness of the defense to take the next step? The odds are against them, but if they can trend in the right direction and Sanheim and Ristolainen have bounce-back season’s, there could be enough momentum to hold this team over until an additional high-end defenseman can come into town, via free agency or trade. While the Flyers have the right coaches to improve the defense in John Tortorella and Brad Shaw, but there is no clear indication that they found the right horses to win the race. With some promising talent though, they can still build this group into something respectable around the league.
