The 2021 NHL Entry Draft is just around the corner and it’s one of the most exiting moments for Flyers’ fans who are looking for changes going into the 2021-2022 season. After a negative rollercoaster of emotions and a lack of moves made by management, it has become common consensus that the NHL Draft will be the tipping point for change around the league. While the Flyers could still trade their first round pick in the NHL Draft, it is possible that they could not trade the pick a potentially take the best player available approach. In this year’s defense heavy draft there are also two talented young goalies. The Flyers could take on of the young and talented goalies early on. This is not so much a knock on Carter Hart, but more of reflection of the depth within their prospect pool and the lack of need within the system. Without a sure fire starter in the prospect system, outside of Hart, it is conceivable that the Flyers grab a goalie early on.

The Draft Analyst, Steve Kournianos, has an excellent website with plenty of free content available on young prospects around the world. His rankings are a good source to measure against the rankings of prospects around on other sites. With this year’s crazy schedule it, it is wise to find some extra resources rather than just central scouting. With the top two players being labeled as Owen Power and Matthew Berniers, teammates in the NCAA. It is a completely wide open game from there, where the rankings have not only been inconsistent, but many players were not able to play on a consistent bases to make their case for draft position.

On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, I welcome back friend of the show and founder of The Draft Analyst, Steve Kournianos. Steve works tirelessly every season to provide a top notch scouting report on 200+ draft eligible players, while providing Mock Drafts leading up to the Entry Draft. The two of us go through his most recent NHL Mock Draft and review each player one by one. We also go through some of the Flyers’ current prospects in depth and their NHL potential.
