E106 – Fedotov Signs, Fletcher talks, & Trotz is Available
Now that the season is finally over, some of the pressure can be taken off of the fanbase to consistently rationalize the pain today, for a chance at promise tomorrow. Already in the early portions of the season, there already seems to be an increase in excitement as the losing has stopped, but signs of a potential change seem to be popping up. Chuck Fletcher recently had his end of the year press conference which answered questions on offseason game plan, the status of Mike Yeo, Ryan Ellis returning to the ice, the medical staff changes, and what steps the team will take in the short term. Once that I can assume for sure, the Flyers didd not anticipate that the New York Islanders and GM Lou Lamoriello would fire one of the best coaches in hockey in Barry Trotz. Trotz is a name a lot of Flyers fans fantasized to coming to Philadelphia, but was always thought of as a long term coach, but suddenly the guy who’s known for getting the most out of his teams is available. With the plethora of good coaches available int he offseason, there will be enough competition for work that maybe the Flyers can manage to land one of the top coaches available. Now it is time for Dave Scott to live up to his promise and open up that blank checkbook.
Additionally the team was able to convince 6’8 highly touted Russian goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov. Fedotov has had an awesome KHL career as he is one of the Elite goalies of the Russian league. With a Silver Medal and a KHL championship on his recent resume, it was time for the Flyers to see what they have in the young net-minder. Add in Chuck Fletchers comments stating he believed Fedotov could play in the NHL, it looks like the Flyers will be going with a young case of net-minders next year in a season they can afford to take risks. As this episode airs the Philadelphia Flyers will be in 4th place to win the NHL lottery draft for the top pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Once that is settled the Flyers will have a good idea of what young player will be coming in that will help start off their offseason with a bang.

I’m a big fan of Trotz, but we don’t need a re-tread. I’ve said this before: the Flyers Brass can change all the coaches they want…it won’t make any difference until the problems Off the Ice are addressed. Then maybe, the product On the Ice may improve
