E119 – How Far Are The Flyers From Being Good Again?

The current state of the Flyers has everyone feeling like they’ve seen this movie before and they know how it ends. However, this is sports. If you knew what was going to happen, you wouldn’t watch. Sure, if the team is the same state they were last season, a lot of people will not watch. But are things really as predetermined as they seem? Most pundits in the league would have no predicted such a downfall to a franchise trending in the right direction. All I am saying is that the same odds for this team to make the playoffs is it is to finish dead last in the NHL. There are just too many variables at this point, too many questions going into next season. It’s definitely wise to prepare yourself for disappointment, but I don’t think it is wise to give up home. The reality is, the Flyers have found themselves in a position where they can only move forward and adjust their plan as options open up. It’s far from optimal, but it’s also not a death sentence. Maybe, GM, Chuck Fletcher won’t be the man to see this team through to the other side, but there is another side to this and still a reason to hope. Only 24 months ago this was considered a promising young team with upside. One bump in the road can’t derail that, only slow it down. This team can still show that it has much more to give.

On this week’s episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, Yariv and Vasili go through the current energy around the team and how people are talking too definitively about how the upcoming season will play out. Trying to bring patience back into the conversation in a time where the fanbase, is understandably, short on it. No matter what the current status of the team is, we can promise you, we will always be watching and hoping for more.
