E104 – How can the Flyers Inspire Hope in the Fanbase?

What a downward spiral it has been. The days of Matt Niskanen and the Flyers first year success with Alain Vigneault, seem so far behind us as the team looks to prove to the hockey world, that they’re not broken and that the perils of the present will be solved in the future. The organization finds itself in a new position where the organization has nothing really to sell the current Flyers’ fanbase. GM, Chuck Fletcher, does not have much support outside of the current Flyers’ leadership, Mike Yeo is being used as a doorstep as players find their way out of the organization, and Injuries have been such a story that the entire staff is being blamed for players like, Ryan Ellis only playing 4 games. Things, have been this bad before, but never have I’ve seen such little amount of confidence within the fanbase to turn the situation around. Even with a generally stocked prospect pool that really only lacks 2 elite prospects, but not a slew of very good prospects, has done nothing to move the needle so far.

When Ron Hextall took over, newcomer, Bobby Brink would have been considered an exciting player as the team had some veteran talent holding them above water. However, with the Couturier injury, Hayes’ season battle with injuries, Ellis with his mystery injury, and slew of other meddling injuries to key players, the Bobby Brink’s and Cam York’s of the world don’t seem to help fix that in the fanbases eyes. It’s going to take some aggression and creativity to turn this around quickly? Does GM, Chuck Fletcher, have it in him to make that happen? Right now, the thought is very questionable.

This week on Gettin Gritty Wit It, we welcome back, Flyers Nitty Gritty we get into what the organization needs to do to inspire hope in the fanbase.

  1. How do they inspire the fanbase. Sell the team. Since that is not happening fire scott and fletcher. But at a minimum fletcher needs to be fired since scott will never be let go.

They must also stop lying to the fans. This team is now 5 years away from being 3 years away from winning anything and a meaningless trip to a first round playoff does nothing. Give me a break with this 2 pieces away nonsense.

They must get out of 1970. The league is young and fast. The day of the big hitters and face punchers are over. You do not sign guys like risto and to long term deals.

Lastly, stop drafting guys who have issues with skating. You really cannot teach speed.
