It’s 2022 and the one thing the Flyers have yet to unfortunately accomplish in this new year so far is actually winning a hockey game. That’s right everyone, the Flyers have not won a game yet in 2022 and are well on their way to achieving a 2nd, 10 game losing streak before the official midway point of this NHL season. They are currently 0-6-3 in their last 9 games played.
With results such as the above one word describes the feeling surrounding the Flyers at the moment and that is frustration. Even though the process of their play has looked better for the past few outings, wins are simply nowhere to be found. The bounces have not been breaking their way and they haven’t been for much of this season in any facet.
Now that the playoffs are virtually an afterthought the team needs to pivot it’s concern to what their identity and structure on the ice needs to be going forward into next season. Focusing on how they want to play, and identifying what current roster players on the team fit that mold will be a crucial part of the process going forward.
As large decisions loom with the present Flyers roster, the highly skilled UFA and RFA players available this off-season, as well as a strong draft class ahead make things even more interesting when estimating how the franchise proceeds as an organization. Not to mention if Chuck Fletcher is still the General Manager who is guiding this team through such an organizational change in direction.
