After a strong start to the 2021-22 NHL season the Philadelphia Flyers finally received their first loss in regulation to the red hot Florida Panthers. The Flyers might of lost the game, but there are plenty of positives to take away from the contest and their performances earlier in the season. The team has scored 18 goals in first 4 games of the season, has seen a vastly improvement in their special teams, a much more competent penalty kill, and Carter Hart looks like he’s back on track with great performances. Overall, its’s been a season of positive starts, with generally good results. There is still plenty of work ahead for the team, but there is no signs for concerns at this point in the season. The team has found a way to be competitive at every turn of the early season and if they would have played just a bit better could have won all 4 games in regulation. Last season, while the team started with a winning record, it was generally mystifying that they were in first place. This season, it’s surprising that they didn’t win all of the games. If Vigneault’s squad can clean up some of the minor mistakes and excessive penalties, they could find themselves sitting comfortably in a playoff spot as the season rolls on.

On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, I welcome Vasili Gianarakos from the Flyers Nitty Gritty team. Vasili lives in Toronto, but happened to grow up as a Flyers fan in hockey mecca, something I think we all can agree on is a good idea and respectable. Vasili is very knowledgeable about the game and brings his critical thinking skills to the show. You will see more of his work release over the upcoming months, but he has been writing consistently. Check out this straight to the point episode of the Flyers strong start to the NHL regular season.
