It’s probably the end of an era. The Philadelphia Flyers currently find themselves at the bottom of the NHL standings, with the worst fourth worst record in the league. As the trade rumors swirl the Flyers, Claude Giroux has his destiny in his hands. With a no trade clause, Giroux gets to decide if he is going to remain a Flyer or find himself as part of the most impactful trades in franchise history. Ironically, his last game would be his 1,000 game wearing the orange and black. Currently the Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers are the leading candidates to land Giroux, but there is not much clarity on the situation outside of hearsay.

It’s not just Giroux who’s on the trade block. Justin Braun, Martin Jones, Keith Yandle, and Derrik Brassard, could find their way out of town as the organization scrambles to get what they can out of a complete nightmare of a season. There have been lots of rumors swirling, but nothing is really clear at this point. As of this episode the Colorado Avalanche traded for Josh Manson for a 2nd round pick and Drew Helleson and moved out Tyson Jost for Nico Sturm, which could be the tipping point for some of the moves to come. These type of moves could lead to other picks that could see Braun traded to another team in on Manson, as Braun brings a similar skillset with a bevy of experience. Martin Jones could be traded to a team like the Maple Leafs looking for goaltending help, without having to move too much value. Derick Brassard is a complete wildcard as teams could definitely use his services and low cap hit, but the return might not be anything special. Keith Yandle is the least tempting of the bunch with such a poor defensive season and a no trade clause chasing the history books with consecutive games played. However, with with a history of staying healthy and an all-star past, a team with the right defensive system could chose to add him as a healthy body for a long playoff run.
