The Philadelphia Flyers have made more changes this offseason than anyone can remember of recent history. From the front office to the AHL, the Flyers have revamped their staff and their on-ice team at all levels. Clearly there was a message sent within the organization that the time is now to make some serious changes. The Metro division is a tough one to compete in, but can this be a season where the Flyers surprise the hockey world and become the big dogs on top? Well, Kevin Allen, former USA Today lead hockey writer, current Detroit Redwings, and Hockey Buzz writer seems to think so.
Kevin hasn’t always been a fan of Chuck Fletchers moves as a GM, especially when he was general manager of the Minnesota Wild. However, this offseason has Kevin thinking that Fletcher might of pushed all of the right buttons to turn this ship around. From brining in savvy veteran Keith Yandle at bottom dollar to brining in one of the best two-way defenseman in the league in Ryan Ellis, Fletcher might of done just enough to skyrocket the club to the top of a very competitive Metro division. While he is not confident in veteran goalie Martin Jones, he does have faith in Carter Hart and his ability to rebound from a down year. With a team with no noticeable holes, there seems to be some optimism that the Flyers would be able to, not only compete in the division, but end up on top.
